World Heart Day: 29 September 2026
Know your numbers
World Heart Day is a great reminder to take a few simple steps to look after your heart health. Knowing your blood pressure and cholesterol levels can help spot potential problems early and reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke.
Free blood pressure checks
High blood pressure often has no symptoms, so many people don't know they have it. Regular checks can help identify it early and ensure you get the right support if needed.
Patients can find a pharmacy offering free NHS blood pressure checks via the NHS website
What is high cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a fatty substance found in the blood. If your cholesterol is too high, it can increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. High cholesterol doesn't usually cause symptoms, which is why it's important to get it checked.
More information on World Heart Day can be found on the World Heart Federation website
