Central Camden PCN COVID-19: Vaccination Programme
We are extremely proud that our Bloomsbury Surgery COVID-19 Vaccination hub was part of the first wave of sites vaccinating. We have come a long way since then and are vaccinating on a weekly basis from our Bloomsbury Hub and from our satellite sites at The Living Centre and our Swiss Cottage Hub.
We are currently working through the most vulnerable cohorts. It is important that patients wait to be contacted by their practice. We will not forget about you,but we are working through the lists as advised by the Government. You do not need to contact your GP, they will get in touch with you when it is your turn to be vaccinated.

If you have had your first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, you will be called in for your second dose within 12 weeks. Please do not contact the vaccination hub or your GP surgery, they will contact you.
How to recognise fraud
The COVID-19 Vaccination is free of charge, we will never ask for your bank details.
If you receive a call, email or home visit from someone who claims they are from the NHS but they ask you to pay, do not engage with them. If you are unsure at any point, please contact your GP and they will be able to tell you if you have been contacted by someone from the NHS.
The NHS will never:
ask you for your bank account or card details
ask you for your bank card PIN
arrive unannounced to your home to give you the vaccine
ask you to prove your identification through personal documents such as passport, driving licence, bills or pay slips
We are using a system called accuBook to book our patients in for their vaccinations. When it is your turn to be vaccinated, if your GP surgery has a mobile number on file for you, they will send you a text with a personal link to book your appointment. If your GP does not have a mobile number on record for you, or you do not have one, you will be contacted via your home number or you will be sent a letter.

What to expect on the day of your vaccination
When you arrive for your COVID-19 Vaccination, you will be placed in a socially distanced queue, this generally moves quite quickly but can often get busy. You do not need to arrive early for your vaccination, this is usually what creates a queue, so, when possible, please arrive as close to your appointment time as possible.
We are following the government guidelines and advice, if there is anything you are unsure about we will do our best to answer this on the day.
You do not need to bring anything with you apart from a face covering, unless you are exempt. If you are having the Pfizer vaccine, you will be monitored for 15 minutes after. The whole process shouldn't take longer than 35-40 minutes.
Please note, you will be told the location of where to attend for your vaccine when you book your appointment. You must attend the site you were given.
We do not accept walk-ins, all appointments are pre-booked.
Bloomsbury COVID-19 Vaccination Hub
If you are asked to attend our Bloomsbury Vaccination Hub please enter through the Hunter Street Health Centre entrance. You will exit via Bloomsbury Surgery, but in order for us to operate a one way system, the entrance is on Hunter Street.
If you are coming from Russell Square tube station, it is a 6 minute walk.
If you have been asked to attend the Swiss Cottage COVID-19 vaccintion hub, it is a portacabin located opposite the Green Light Pharmacy on Winchester Road.
If you are coming from Swiss Cottage tube station, it is a 5 minute walk.

What to expect after your vaccination
It is possible that you may feel some side effects after you have had your vaccination. The most common side effects include:
having a painful, heavy feeling and tenderness in the arm where you had your injection. This tends to be worst 1 to 2 days after the vaccine
general aches, or mild flu like symptoms
If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed above, you can take usual painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen to help.
It is unlikely that these symptoms will last longer than a week, but if you are worried, please contact NHS 111.

Can the vaccine give me COVID-19?
You cannot get COVID-19 from the vaccine. But it is possible that you could have caught COVID-19 from somewhere else.
Can I have the vaccine if I am pregnant?
There is no clear evidence that states you cannot have the vaccine if you are pregnant. However, unless you are high risk or coming into contact with a lot of other people, it is advised that you wait until after your pregnancy to have your vaccination. You can read more about it here.
Can I have the vaccine if I have had the flu vaccine?
Yes, but it is advised that you leave 7 days in between the two vaccines.
Am I able to hug my friends and family once I’ve had the vaccine?
No, it is important that you continue to follow the government guidelines, even after you have had your COVID-19 vaccine. Although the vaccine gives you protection, it is not clear if you can still carry and pass on COVID-19 to others.
Which vaccine is better?
Each vaccine has to go through huge amounts of testing and has to be approved by Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) before it can be administered to patients. Any approved vaccine will be considered safe and effective, which is why patients do not get a choice when coming for their vaccine.
Will the vaccine effect my fertility?
There is no evidence that shows the COVID-19 vaccine will effect your fertility. Please read this article if you are still worried.
I've already had COVID-19 and tested positive for the antibodies, do I still need to have the vaccine?
It is still not clear if having previously been infected with COVID-19 will offer you long-term protection against it. So it is important that you do attend when invited for your COVID-19 vaccine. If you have recently tested positive for COVID-19, you will need to wait at least 4 weeks since your symptoms stopped, or since you last had a negative test, until you can have your vaccine.
I've received a letter about getting vaccinated, can I attend one of my GP sites?
Yes, you are able to contact your GP and book an appointment through them, if you would prefer to do this. You are also able to log onto the national booking service, and choose from 107 mass vaccination sites and 195 pharamcy lead sites. Anyone who is unable to book online can call 119 free of charge, anytime between 7am and 11pm seven days a week.
Which GP surgeries are included in Central Camden PCN?
Bloomsbury Surgery, Camden Health Improvement Practice (CHIP), Gower Street Practice, Kings Cross Surgery, Regents Park Practice, Ridgmount Practice, Somers Town Medical Centre and Swiss Cottage Surgery.
What happens to the spare vaccines at the end of the day?
We have our own internal back up list of patients to contact that fit the JCVI cohorts if this happens.
Can I be moved cohort/group?
No, you are in a specific cohort for a reason, you cannot change this.
Can I still catch and pass on COVID-19?
As the vaccine is new, it is still not clear if you can transmit the virus once you have had the vaccine. As the vaccine roll out continues, we hope that there will be more information released around this. The best thing you can do after your vaccination, is to still follow government guidelines and keep yourself and others safe.
Is there anyone that can't get the vaccine?
You should not get the vaccine if you have had a serious allergic reaction to any of the ingredients in the COVID-19 vaccine, or if you had a serious allergic reaction to your first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Will the vaccine give me 100% protection from COVID-19?
The approved vaccines offer very high protection against COVID-19, but no vaccine provides 100% protection. As more people are vaccinated, the risks of the vaccine circulating and infecting people should decrease, and should then help prevent those who do not fully respond to the vaccine or are unable to have it due to allergic reactions.
Does the vaccine contain animal products?
None of the approved vaccines have any ingredients taken from pigs, cows or any other animals.
Will having the COVID-19 vaccine break my fast?
Dr Hussain, who is a practising Muslim, says: “Getting an injection does not break the fast – it’s not nutrition. There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t have it. The Koran says saving your life is the most important thing, to save one life is to save the whole of humanity. It’s a responsibility of a practising Muslim to take their vaccine.”

Why haven't my parents been invited?
Different parts of the country will be working at different speeds to get the vaccines administered. Places will have a higher demand in certain cohorts which may delay them to move through them as quickly. But the vaccination programme is moving very quickly so you can be assured that they will be invited soon.
Do I have to have my second dose done at the same place as the first?
Yes, when you have your first vaccine the order supply is instantly matched for your second dose. It is important that you don't go elsewhere for your doses as it helps prevent vaccine wastage.
Why have I been invited for my COVID-19 vaccine?
You will have been invited because you meet the age criteria of the current invited cohorts and within your medical record you are indicated as having an underlying health condition or are coded as a carer.
